Things to do around Mondsee

Skiing
As Mondsee is just the the edge of the Alps this is the ideal staging ground for a ski trip. If you are looking to go for a one day ski excursion then Mondsee is a great place to go from. However if you were planning for more than one day then your best bet would be to move on from Mondsee deeper into the mountains. Some options are:

Thalgau: Very low skiing and only one ski slope, but if there is plenty of snow the could be an option for a beginner lesson. (5mins from Mondsee)

Zwoelferhorn: Small and low, but close to Mondsee. Details here. http://www.12erhorn.at/html/winter.html (30mins from Mondsee)

Ski Amade: The closest large and high ski area. Tried and tested by Amanda and Robert. Very likely to have significant open slopes in mid December. More details here: http://www.skiamade.com/en/winter (1hr from Mondsee)

Please note however that December 10th is still quite early in the season so please be sure to “go high.” Anything under about 1500m is quite risky at that time of year.

If you need any advice please contact Robert directly.

Feed the ducks
What trip to a lake is complete without feeding the ducks. I have been reliably informed that these particular ducks are very fond of stale bread. So don’t forget to take some down with you.

Mondsee boat trip
For a good explore of the lake including the chance to eat cake and drink coffee, you can take the boat around the lake of Mondsee. You will get to see the full lake in all of its glory and enjoy learning a little about the region too.

Hiking
For those of you who want to pull on your walking boots you are spoiled for choice here. There are walks which vary in complexity from a simple flat walk around part of the lake to rock climbing which can place all year round. Some of the mountain trails do become quite dangerous over the winter period so please do take care. More information can be found here. (sorry only in German)

Christmas Markets
Mondsee’s Christmas markets are not as well known nor as vast as Nuremberg's but that should not deter you from having a wander around. The markets are centred around the church. Inside you will find arts and crafts and some very unique gifts for all the family. Outside you will find warming open fires with stalls selling warming drinks, locally produced cheese, sausages and fish all to keep you warm as you listen to a show or service being performed on the small stage. http://www.12erhorn.at/html/winter.htmlhttp://www.skiamade.com/en/winterhttp://www.skiamade.com/en/winterhttp://www.mondseeland-info.com/wandern_mondsee.htmlshapeimage_3_link_0shapeimage_3_link_1shapeimage_3_link_2shapeimage_3_link_3
